Clairvoyance or being a clairvoyant can be defined as the ability to perceive something beyond the natural human senses and historically speaking, it is aligned to ancient times. Many cultures believe in the existence of these responsibilities of certain human beings, them being connected to the spiritual world, able to perceive certain information.
Extrasensory perception, that the person with this sense can acquire information without using the recognized sensory channels, is the basis for any psychic ability including clairvoyance, telepathy and the one who is a medium. A psychic can see, hear, perceive, sense, feel or taste beyond the limitations of the material world (Silva, 2021, pp.5). The term "psychic" is a rather abundant term for a succession of abilities and skills that have to do with an inherent capacity to obtain sensory data at a deeply spiritual level (Silva, 2021, pp. 11). There are examples and cases of people who used clairvoyance, mediumship, precognition and other psychic avenues in cultures around the world. The medium may be clairvoyant but they also have the ability to connect with people who have passed away[1]. Mediums do not use any type of mancy or instrument to see the future.[2]. A medium is one who is between two worlds; the physical and the extra-physical. He is an intermediary who perceives through his "psychic antenna".[3]
Clairvoyance, or clairvoyance, was a fairly common practice in ancient cultures and is mentioned in several sacred books of different philosophies and religions. In the Bhagavad Gita, which comes from India, the ability of seers, who were known as "rishis" to see the past and the future through meditation, is mentioned. In India clairvoyance is mentioned in Vedic times in connection with the vedas. Vedic sages had abilities to predict the future through meditation and their connection with the gods.
In pre-Columbian culture, in certain regions of South and Central America, clairvoyance was very common, specifically among shamans and healers. These spiritual leaders used techniques such as the use of plants and meditation to have visions of the future and guide their communities. Figures in precious metals such as gold and silver in the form of eagles and frogs were used among shamans or tribal leaders in Costa Rica for example.
In Egypt divination and clairvoyance were quite common practices. It relates to the practice of divination by reading stars using magic amulets and the oracle. There was also dream interpretation, to predict the future, observation of bird flights and animal behavior to carry messages through clairvoyance.
In France there were several clairvoyants such as Nostradamus and Madame Lenormand, who worked with cartomancy or card reading.
In short, clairvoyance and foretelling the future has been part of many ancient cultures.
